Ziva Jelin

Ziva Jelin (b. 1962, Kibbutz Be’eri, Israel) is a painter and arts educator who served as Director and Curator of the Be’eri Gallery from 1993 to 2023. Working primarily with acrylic, wall paint, varnish, and tar on large-scale white fabric, she creates mostly monochromatic paintings in red, black, or blue that maintain a restrained realism. Drawing on photographs of her home in Kibbutz Be’eri, including its trees, buildings, grass, and sidewalks, Jelin’s work is rooted in a specific place yet unsettles it, as surfaces appear damaged, eroded, or dissolving, as if the image itself is leaking or vanishing, moving between memory and forgetfulness.
