Jordan Casteel

Jordan Casteel (b. 1989, Denver, Colorado, USA) is a New York-based painter whose practice is centered on portraiture as a means of exploring identity, intimacy, and community. Working from direct observation, Casteel creates vibrant, large-scale paintings that celebrate the individuality and dignity of her subjects, often depicting friends, neighbors, and members of the communities surrounding her. Characterized by luminous color, rich surface, and an empathetic approach to representation, her work expands the traditions of figurative painting while addressing questions of visibility, belonging, and human connection. Casteel has exhibited extensively, with recent solo exhibitions at the Hill Art Foundation, New York; Casey Kaplan, New York; the New Museum, New York; and the Denver Art Museum, among others.
